The pursue of environmental justice in Latin America and its relationship with the Escazú Agreement
Abstract
The impacts of our activities, especially in recent years, have caused serious damage to all living beings, ecosystems and the ways of life of many communities, many of which are irreversible. In this sense, our duty, as human beings, is to promote the adoption of solutions that not only seek to protect, conserve and restore natural elements, but also guarantee the enjoyment of the right to a healthy environment in an equitable manner by all people.
The latter is precisely the main objective of the Environmental Justice movement, which seeks more inclusive and participatory decision-making in environmental matters. In this sense, this article aims to delve into the origins and main premises of this movement (which encompasses concepts such as access rights in environmental matters, as well as various social struggles) and how, despite having been born in the United States, it has been translated in Latin America, especially with its concretization through the Escazú Agreement.
